As revealed in the recent Nintendo Direct, the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection will bring back the beloved Star Wars Battlefront (2004) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) for a new generation of players. The collection will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam for $35.01. The Classic Collection offers restored online play for up to 64 players, expansions to Hero Assault mode, and all previously released bonus content for both titles. And if you’re a Steam user, you’ll be pleased to know that Steam Deck support is also included.

The Classic Collection boasts a plethora of content that is inspired by the original and prequel trilogies. You’ll get to experience the famous battles across Episodes I-VI, play as your favorite heroes and villains such as Asajj Ventress, Darth Vader, and more, and engage in unique modes and challenges. Additionally, previously console-exclusive extras are now available on all platforms, making the Classic Collection the ultimate gaming experience for Star Wars fans. Check out the full list of features below and get ready to immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe like never before.

What is different?

The number of features is the best aspect of these games. Both Battlefront games, particularly Battlefront II, contain a wealth of single-player content that remains quite outstanding. The most prominent feature is called “Galactic Conquest.” However, consider that Battlefront II, which was only released a year after the original Battlefront, was able to add heroes vs villains, space fights, and polish the shooting mechanics, removing stick reticles to make combat more fluid. There is a lot packed in here. For those who aren’t interested in playing online multiplayer, these games have a lot to offer in terms of single-player campaigns that are enjoyable to play and replay, whether alone or with a friend. And isn’t it odd that couch co-op/versus modes in a shooter are something I’d be applauding in 2024?

Star Wars Battlefront (classic)

Again, this feature of the Battlefront games reflects the time in which they were created. Nowadays, game developers spend a significant amount of effort balancing, improving, and ensuring that the multiplayer experience is fluid, frantic, and fast-paced. However, back then, shooter creators prioritized the single-player experience, providing gamers with game types that could keep them entertained for hours. That is not to suggest that current shooters do not provide excellent story-driven experiences; they certainly do. However, it’s refreshing to see how much stuff was available for individuals who didn’t want to go online.
